The 2011 season ended over the weekend in Hutchinson and Brownton with tough losses to Burnsville 2-1 (in 10 innings) and Savage 3-2.

The offense lacked the firepower that catipulted the team to the state tournament, managing only 2 hits on Saturday to back up Mike Peschel solid 10 innings on the mound Saturday. The team failed to capitalize on several opportunities in Sunday's game, including stranding the bases loaded with 1 out early in the game. The big hit just wasn't there this weekend, and credit goes to the opposing pitchers the team faced.

It was definitely disappointing finish to an otherwise great season.

IMG_1910-eThe Brewers advanced to the Minnesota Class "B" State Tournament after beating Coon Rapids and Chaska on Friday and Saturday. The win over Chaska on Saturday secured a state tournament playoff birth, which will be an 8-team double-elimination format played in Hutchinson, Brownton and Glencoe over the following 2 weekends.

The Brewers face Burnsville at 11am in Hutchinson...

The team punished opposing pitchers for 32 hits in the first 2 games. However, the Brew Crew failed to secure the top seed out of the Super Section when Chaska beat the Brewers in back-to-back games, 10-2, 4-3 on a long Sunday afternoon. Despite the setback, the Brewers remain red hot at the plate and feel they are in great position to make a run at state.

What a weekend of baseball. Two big wins over Cold Spring resulted in the Moorhead Brewers advancing to the Super Sectional in Chaska this coming weekend. Mike Peschel turned in a gutsy performance on the mound, earning a save on Friday night against Cold Spring, then coming back for the start Saturday evening vs Zac Femrite and the Cold Spring Springers in a lose-or-go-home elimination game. Chris Clemenson gave the Brewers the lead with a towering 2-run HR early. When rain suspended play in the 6th inning, the game restarted at noon on Sunday. Mike returned to the mound and completed the shutout.

The team will play Coon Rapids on Friday night in Chaska at 8:30pm. The other teams in the bracket are Hastings and Chaska.

Over the past couple weeks the squad has been tuning up for a playoff run with solid wins over Jamestown Elks, Mayville, and Pelican Rapids, but a disapppointing weekend trip to Brainerd left the Brewers in an unfavorable 3rd seed in the upcoming section tournament. The Brewers simply could not swing the bat on the day they lost to section favorite Sauk Rapids 8-1 and followed up with a 1-0 loss to Brainerd. A solid bounce-back win over Brainerd the following day helped put the wheels back on.

This Wednesday the team will play good competition in the Jamestown Elks in final preparation for the Section Tournament held in Cold Spring Friday-Sunday. The tournament is a double-elimination with the top 2 teams advancing to a 4-team Super Sectional Tournament. Game 1 matches the Cold Spring Springers versus the Brewers. Earlier this season the Brewers have split with Cold Spring, losing 9-3 and winning 6-4. The Brewers need to win 2 before losing 2 this weekend or the season will come to an early end...
