The Brewers advanced to the Minnesota Class "B" State Tournament after beating Coon Rapids and Chaska on Friday and Saturday. The win over Chaska on Saturday secured a state tournament playoff birth, which will be an 8-team double-elimination format played in Hutchinson, Brownton and Glencoe over the following 2 weekends.
The Brewers face Burnsville at 11am in Hutchinson...
The team punished opposing pitchers for 32 hits in the first 2 games. However, the Brew Crew failed to secure the top seed out of the Super Section when Chaska beat the Brewers in back-to-back games, 10-2, 4-3 on a long Sunday afternoon. Despite the setback, the Brewers remain red hot at the plate and feel they are in great position to make a run at state.
Chris Clemenson was a threat in every at bat all weekend, hitting for a high average and 3 home runs. Chris Coste had clutch hits and Mike Peschel got red hot at the plate, going 4 for 6 with 5 RBIs, 2 runs scored including a home run in the pivotal first game against Coon Rapids. Peschel continued to mow down opponents on the mound in 4 crucial innings of relief against Coon Rapids, then started and threw a complete game against Chaska the day after in another dominating perforamance. Against Chaska, Nick Obey went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Jeremy Peschel went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Sunday didn't go so well... Todd Fuller started on the mound in game 1 but got very little run support. Fielding errors resulted in unearned runs and the team could not dig out of an early hole. The loss forced a 2nd game immediately following, and it was a close one. Brook Lyter started on the mound and the Brewers held a close lead through 5 innings but then Chaska struck in the 6th for 2 runs. Vic Sokolofsky pitched well in relief but in the 9th inning with bases loaded Chaska got the walk-off single to end the game.
The bottom line is the Brewers have advanced to the exclusive field of 8 teams for the state tournament. A nice accomplishment on its own considering it is the team's first year in Class "B". The team looks forward to facing more good competition and will square off with Burnsville at 11am in Hutchinson.

GAME SUMMARY
---
The Brewers road to the MN State tournament would be a tough assignment as they had to face the host team Chaska Cubs. Nic Obey doubled to start the game and was followed by Mike Peschel's bloop single over the second basemen to put runners on the corners. Obey scored on a Chris Coste ground-out and the Brewers grabbed the early 1-0 advantage. The Cubs tied the contest at 1-1 with a solo homer off the bat of Greg Lane. Mike Peschel started on the hill for the Brewers the day after pitching 4 innings in relief on Friday night. The lefthander threw zeros at the Cubs after the homerun including a stretch of 14 straight batters set down that went into the 9th. Meanwhile the Brewer bats awoke in the top of the 7th for 3 runs fueled by Obey's triple that drove in Dingmann who led off the inning with a double. Chris Coste brought home Obey with a solid knock to left and was followed by Chris Clemenson's single to bring in Peschel to put the Brewers ahead 4-1. More Brewer offense followed in the top of the 8th as Dingmann reached via error and scored on Jeremy Peschel's triple to right center. Todd Fuller drove in JP with a single to center and later scored on Obey's single to make it 7-1 in favor of the Brewers. Peschel made the lead stand up with his complete game effort scattering 6 Cubs hits and striking out 4 on the afternoon. The win against the Cubs meant the Brewers punched a ticket to the MN State Class B tournament next weekend hosted by Glencoe/Brownton/Hutchinson.
