Announcing! The Moorhead Brewers will be hosting a 16-team amateur baseball tournament next spring thanks in part to local sponsors including the City of Moorhead, Fargo-Moorhead Athletic Commission and others. The "Northwest Baseball Championships" will be held over Memorial Day Weekend May 20-22, 2011 and will be played on Jack Williams and Matson Fields. Teams from all classes in 4 states (MN, ND, SD, NE) are invited, with several teams already committed. The Brewers put together two impressive wins on Saturday, and followed through with a win on Sunday to wrap up the top seed in Region 12. The team posted 32 runs in 3 games and blasted 5 HR's in an offensive performance reminiscent of the 2004 squad that made a deep run in the state tournament. Thanks to deep pitching, the Brewers were able to hold off dangerous EGF Heaters and Moorhead Miners squads. Next up, the 2009 Class C State Tournament in Arlington/Gaylord. The Brewers will play an elimination game on Saturday at 1:30pm in Arlington.

The Moorhead Brewers survived a test from Crookston in round 1 of the Region 12C tournament, winning 4-0. The season was on the line for both teams and behind a strong outing on the hill by Gabe Shockman the Brewers came out on top 4-0. Todd Fuller's lead off homer in the 3rd inning just curled inside the right field foul pole as the Brewers drew first blood.

The Brewers advanced to the regional playoffs on a forfeit from Felton this past Sunday. However, the Brewers were unable to break their losing streak, which now stands at 5 games, dropping the rematch with the Moorhead Miners 7-2. The Brewers will have a chance to return to the state tournament, but only if they can survive two elimination games next week (to be determined). In the mean time, the Brewers will try to get back on track with a pair of games this week, starting with Wednesday's game against Mayville, and then weekend games at Dassel and Maple Lake.

In a game where the team stranded 20 runners on base, including 4 innings in a row with the bases loaded, had 2 runners caught stealing, and also had a go-ahead runner thrown out at home plate on a sac fly late in the game, the Brewers still managed to pull out a win 5-4 over the East Grand Forks Heaters. Mike Peschel came in to pitch in relief late in the game. A 6-4-3 double play ended it. Now the Brewers face the winner of the Moorhead Miners and Roseau Royals in game 2, scheduled for 3pm on Sunday.
The Moorhead Brewers hosted the Border Battle Tournament in Wahpeton over the weekend and emerged as champs for the 2nd year in a row after posting three big wins.
