Brewers Kickoff SeasonThe Brewers opened the 2009 campaign with a pair of wins over the MSUM club baseball team in a doubleheader that was played at Matson Field in Moorhead. The weather was perfect for early May. Both games were competitive, with the first game going extra innings before the Brewers pulled it out. |

The Brewers made the best of the long road trip to New Prague, waiting out the rains and emerging victorious for the 2nd year in a row...The Brewers less-than-full squad beat Winona in the semi-final and Jordan in the championship. Corey Trick tossed a complete game in the final and Jason Drake and Ryan Olson were named to the All-Tournament team. The Brewers combined good pitching and a balanced hitting attack to pick up the wins. Championship game
The Moorhead Brewers advanced to the final 4 in the Brookings Tournament, but got spanked by Green Isle 13-3 on Sunday. It was the first time in 4 years that the Brewers were ten-runned. To make matters worse, Jeremy Peschel suffered a broken forearm after getting hit by a pitch in Friday night's game. The loss of JP and the lopsided loss on Sunday put a damper on an otherwise successful weekend. On Friday night, Gabe Shockman pitched a complete game shutout against a good Pierre, SD team and Jason Brueske hit a clutch single to give the Brewers the win.
The Moorhead Brewers went 2-1 at the Freeport Tournament, failing to repeat as tournament champs. In a rematch of the opening round in last year's tourney, the Brewers hooked up with the Belle Plaine Tigers. The weather was sunny, but brutally cold and windy all day. The Brewer bats could not get anything going and failed to support starting pitcher Grant Kragness. The Brewers went on to win the remaining 2 games.
