NABA World Series - Pheonix, AZ

The Brewers will take a team to Pheonix, AZ at the end of September to compete in the NABA World Series!

The Brewers are challenging themselves by playing in the 18+ Open Wood Bat division (Sept 25-28th), which is the top level and has no restrictions for professional status, etc. There is a 5-game guarantee and major league spring training facilities will be used!

The team is also excited to hookup with former Brewer Kirk Jacobs who now lives in Tucson, AZ.

Mike Peschel Resigns With Redhawks

Mike Peschel resigned with the Fargo/Moorhead Redhawks through the end of the season and for Northern League playoffs.   Mike will add pitching depth for the division champion Redhawks as they look to win the Northern League championship.  Mike expects to be used out of the bullpen and also get a start in Kansas City in the last regular season series.

Good luck to Mike & Todd from the Brew Crew!

Brewers Slump, Exit Early

The Brewers were in stunned silence after being eliminated by the Bemidji Blue Ox in region play, 1-0.  Players and fans alike could be seen stumbling around asking, "What just happened?"  For the first time of the season, the Brewers were shut out.  Not a single run scored.

For a moment it appeared the Brewers would surely rally and pull the game out.  Trailing 1-0 with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth inning, leadoff hitter Doug Lonski hit a sharp grounder up the middle which was snagged by a Blue Ox relief pitcher for a 1-2-3 putout double play.  Then, team hitting leader Mike Peschel grounded out to 2nd to end the threat.  In the ninth inning, the Brew Crew managed to get runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, but Josh Dietz struck out swinging.

Simply put, the Brewers slumped at the wrong time of the season.  Despite winning 3 of 4 tournaments and putting up a 22-3 record through the end of July, the Brewers went 1-2 in August and were handed walking papers.  It is without a doubt the most disappointing end to any Brewer season on record.

Mike Peschel threw another great game, but unfortunately it was wasted.  The 2008 campaign will be a reminder to never look past any opponent.

Region 12C Update

The Brewers got past East Grand Forks Heaters in game 1 of Region 12C action, 2-1 behind a strong performance from Mike Peschel, who pitched all 9 innings.   Ada beat the Bemidji Blue Ox in game 2, final score 6-1.  The Blue Ox surprised EGF in the elimination game with a big comeback late in the game.

After a weather delay, the Brewers faced off with the Ada A's for a state birth.  Draftee Derek Biermeier from Roseau pitched for Ada, Austin Baukol for the Brewers.  It was a tight contest through 6 innings with the Brewers holding on to a 1-run lead until Ada broke the game open, scoring 2 in the 7th off Baukol and 3 more in the 8th off reliever Brock Gnadt.  Fielding the ball was extremely difficult due to the bizarre lighting/overcast conditions during that time.  At least 2 routine fly balls dropped in to score runs and extend innings.  Credit Ada for putting the ball in play.

West Central League Champs

The Brewers won game 2 of the playoff series with the Miners.  The game was on the line in the top of the 9th inning with the Brewers down 2-1 when the bats were finally able to get to Miners starter Shane Bushland.  A 3-run 9th inning put the Brewers ahead and starter Mike Peschel finished it out.  The Brewers now advance as the number one seed from the West Central League and will play the winner of Ada vs. East Grand Forks on Saturday at 10am.  Box score
