Mike Peschel Plays Against Team USA 18U
Mike Peschel was invted to play on the "St. Cloud Selects" all-star amateur team to play the Team USA 18U team (featuring the top 18 and under players in the nation) at Faber Field in St. Cloud on a beautiful Monday night. Mike represented well, going 1-2 at the plate in that game and then 1-2 the following day vs. Chinese Taipei.
The Selects team lost 3-0 to USA and 6-4 to Taipei. Against Team USA, Zach Femrite was the starting pitcher for the Selects and he threw well, but the Selects had 3 costly errors which led to 2 unearned runs. The talent on Team USA was stunning. The closer Lance McCullers from Tampa (who is 16 years old-pictured right) hit 99mph! To see who played, take a look at the Box score.
Playoffs Underway! The march towards a state championship has begun...With eliminations of the Moorhead Mets and Moorhead Spartans, the team will now play a 3-game series with the Moorhead Expos to determine seeding in the Regional tournament coming up in August. To stay fresh, the team will face the Jamestown Elks, Jamestown Merchants, Mayville, and Enderlin in the next couple of weeks. Recent article on the Minnesota Baseball Association website named the Moorhead Brewers as the team to beat in Class "C". With 200+ teams that's lofty expectations, but the team is hungry for a deep run..
Brewers Ride Win Streak To Win Border Battle The Moorhead Brewers hit 6 home runs and crossed the plate 26 times in an impressive offensive display in the Border Battle Tournament in Wahpeton, ND. The 6th Annual Border Battle featured 8 teams, the Brewers defeated Ada A's, Jamestown Elks in the semifinal and Midway Snurdbirds in the final. Tim Jallen, Jeremy Peschel, and Tom Fuchs all hit home runs in the championship game to give Gabe Schockman plenty of run support. With the sweep, the Brewers extend their winning streak to 9 games, with a number of impressive wins over tough competition. Earlier in the week, the Brewers took care of the Moorhead Expos on Tuesday evening at Matson and then traveled to Valley City Wednesday night for another win. Next up is a rematch with the Jamestown Elks on Tuesday at Matson before the 4th of July break...2010 Season UnderwaySpring is here and that means baseball. The Brewers 2010 campaign is off to a good start and there are several new additions to the squad this year. The Brewers are also very excited to call Matson Field "Home" for several league games this year. The season got underway with a game against the Jamestown Merchants on a cold, wet night at Matson Field, with the Brewers prevailing 12-4. Both teams struggled with control problems on the mound surrendering 22 total walks between both teams. The schedule this season has the Brewers traveling to some fun ballparks including Chaska & Shakopee and participating in 3 tournaments with some interesting matchups. Mike Peschel looks to contribute more on the mound this year coming off successful shoulder surgery, and the rest of the core group of players is still intact. Look for big things in 2010! Brewers Eliminated by Bruins The Brewers lost to the L.A. Bruins 8-4 in the first round of the playoffs in Phoenix on a beautiful night at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ. The Brewers faced a tough pitcher in Matt Durkin (2009 Golden League Pitcher of the Year) and a former 2nd round draft pick (44th overall) by the Mets. Zach Femrite took the hill for the Brewers on short rest, and the Bruins jumped out to an early lead. The Brewers could not match the firepower of the solid L.A. team, who boasted a roster full of contract pros. It was a great experience and the team thoroughly enjoyed the competition. |
