tj-082710-1-wThe Moorhead Brewers successfully advanced past the first 2 elimination rounds at state (for the first time since the 3rd place run in 2004) and now look forward to playing a lot of good baseball over Labor Day Weekend...The team goal is nothing less than a State Championship title. The fun starts Friday evening at 6:00pm in Bird Island against the Sacred Heart Saints who have advanced by beating St. Martin, Belle Plaine, and Lastrup. The only Sacred Heart opponent the Brewers have played is Belle Plaine, which was an early season loss for the Brewers back on May 22nd. The Saints sport a season record of 29-13 and appear to be a tough opponent for the Brew Crew. The Brewers bats have been on fire in the state tourney having scored 30 runs on 40 hits in just 3 games. The first 3 games at state the Brewers have advanced in different ways: 10-run mercy rule (Bertha), pitcher's duel (Keith Meyers-Hampton), and come-from-behind 9th inning victory (Big Lake). What's next?

The Moorhead Brewers have qualified for state after a bumpy road at the regional tournament in Ada, MN. The team dispatched Warroad 14-0 in game one, but got upset (again) by Ada in game 2, losing 9-7. The loss forced to team face the Moorhead Expos in a dreaded elimination game..and state tournament birth. At gut check time the Brew Crew came out on top 5-1, beating a good Expos squad for the 6th straight time this season. This gave the team a shot at a rematch with Ada to determine seeding at State. The game was close but a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Ada the win and the top seed.

The team is anxious for game one in the state tournament, slated for Saturday, Aug 21st at 1:30pm in Spicer, MN. The tournament is hosted this year by Bird Island, Willmar, and Spicer.

The Brewers move on to the regional tournament this weekend after officially wrapping up the number one seed in the West Central League, defeating the Moorhead Expos in the best-of-three series to determine seeding. The regional tournament will be played in Ada, MN, a 4-team double-elimination format over the next 2 weekends. The Brewers match up with Warroad at 1pm on Saturday and play game 2 immediately following or at 7pm depending on results. The 4 teams in the region include Ada, Warroad, Moorhead Expos, and Moorhead Brewers. The Brewers have not played Warroad this year. The team did face Ada once in the Border Battle Tourney and the Expos five times, victorious in all games. The team feels they have as good a chance as ever to win the region, but remember all to well the '08 squad which entered the tournament 23-2 and failed to qualify for a state birth...All business in 2010.
