Brewers Remain Perfect in League Play

The Moorhead Brewers ran their perfect league record to 5-0 with wins over the Miners and the Saints on Sunday evening at Helling Field.  In the opener against the Miners the Brewers were down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th, but came through with 2 runs to tie and 1 run in the bottom of the 7th to win 3-2.  In the nightcap, they put down the Saints 5-1 to extend their winning streak to 9 games in a row.

 Brewers      3       Miners      2

Familiar West Central foes hooked up again in league play as the Miners plated single runs in the 2nd and 3rd off Brewer starter Brock Gnadt.  The Miners held the 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning until Josh Dietz drew a walk to start the inning off reliever Matt Kemp.  Gnadt and Andy Leraas reached via HBP to load the bases and an RBI groundout by Chris Strautz trimmed the Miner lead to 2-1.  Gnadt scored the tying run off a single by Pat Lisko to knot the game at 2-2 heading to the 7th inning.  The Miners went down in order in the top of the 7th setting the stage for SS Jeremy Peschel's leadoff double in the gap to get the Brewers in business.  Peschel alertly stole third on a botched bunt coverage and Ryan Olson's SAC fly to left-field plated Peschel with the winning run.  Gnadt earned the win going 7 innings and striking out 9.

 Brewers      5       Saints       1

The Brewers jumped on the Saints early, scoring 4 runs in the 2nd and adding another run in the 4th.  Grant Kragness walked to lead-off the 2nd followed up by base hits by Pat Lisko and Chris Strautz.  All would score to back starting pitcher Andy Leraas.  Staked with the lead, Leraas held the Saints in check until they pushed across an unearned run in the 7th to make the final 5-1 in favor of the Brewers.  Leraas struck out 9 and walked none to up his personal record on the season to 4-0.  Kole Zimmerman knocked in 2 in the game to lead the Brewers to their 9th win in a row.

Next action for the Brewers is Wednesday night against the Jamestown Merchants at Helling Field.  Game time is 7pm as the Brewers look to extend their win streak heading into this weekend's Border Battle in Wahpeton, ND.
