The Brewers swept rival Moorhead Miners in convincing fashion on Sunday to capture the West Central League Championship.
And boy was it a hot & muggy afternoon for a double header at McCormick Field with temps in the mid 90's. Battling the heat and humidity was tough not only for the players, but apparently for umpires as well. Both games featured a plethora of controversial calls, one of which led to the ejection of a Miners ballplayer.
With playoff intensity, the Brewers offense stepped up in the 4th inning of game 1 and pounded the Miners starting pitcher for 8 runs. A solid defensive effort backing up starting pitcher Brook Lyter and reliever Andy Leraas kept the game out of reach the rest of the way.
Brock Gnadt pitched game 2, overmatching a demoralized Miners squad. The Brewers got the bats going again and capitalized on Miners pitching woes to end the game in the 7th inning on the 10-run rule.
