The Moorhead Brewers traveled to Green Isle/Arlington as reigning champions of the 2007 Miller Lite Invitational tournament. As usual, this year's field featured some of the best teams in Class 'C'. The Brewers advanced to the semi-final round but failed to get past host Green Isle on Sunday, losing 6-5. The Brewers beat St. Joseph in the opening round and cruised past Litchfield to setup a rematch against Green Isle. Under bright skies and a swirling breeze, the afternoon contest got a little wild, a little ugly. Both teams complained about umpire calls and the starting centerfielder for Green Isle was tossed. There was even an argument about DH rules which led to some fiesty talk on the field and even with fans. Overall, the Brew Crew did not get the consistent pitching and defense they needed to beat a good class 'B' team.
It was a tough loss for the Brewers, which broke a 14 game winning streak. Despite being shorthanded (missing 4 starters) the Brewers put up a pretty good fight. Rookie Alex Salquist hit his first HR as a Brewer, a 2-run shot over the left centerfield wall. Box score
Notes: Mike Peschel & Todd George continued their dominance on the mound in game 1 and 2. Todd George pitched a gem in round 2 against Litchfield, hurling a 1-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts.
