The Brewers got past East Grand Forks Heaters in game 1 of Region 12C action, 2-1 behind a strong performance from Mike Peschel, who pitched all 9 innings. Ada beat the Bemidji Blue Ox in game 2, final score 6-1. The Blue Ox surprised EGF in the elimination game with a big comeback late in the game.
After a weather delay, the Brewers faced off with the Ada A's for a state birth. Draftee Derek Biermeier from Roseau pitched for Ada, Austin Baukol for the Brewers. It was a tight contest through 6 innings with the Brewers holding on to a 1-run lead until Ada broke the game open, scoring 2 in the 7th off Baukol and 3 more in the 8th off reliever Brock Gnadt. Fielding the ball was extremely difficult due to the bizarre lighting/overcast conditions during that time. At least 2 routine fly balls dropped in to score runs and extend innings. Credit Ada for putting the ball in play.
The Brewers did manage to mount a comeback in the 9th, scoring 2 runs. Chris Clemenson smacked a high fly ball to left but it failed to leave the yard and Dale Dingmann grounded out to end the game with the tieing run at 2nd base against reliever David Spies.
The Brewers now face an elimination game with the Bemidji Blue Ox on Saturday, Aug 9th at 1pm. If the Brewers win, they will earn a spot at state and get a rematch with Ada. The Brewers can still take the #1 seed in region 12C, but in order to do that they will have to win 3 games next weekend.
