Brewers Slump, Exit Early

The Brewers were in stunned silence after being eliminated by the Bemidji Blue Ox in region play, 1-0.  Players and fans alike could be seen stumbling around asking, "What just happened?"  For the first time of the season, the Brewers were shut out.  Not a single run scored.

For a moment it appeared the Brewers would surely rally and pull the game out.  Trailing 1-0 with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth inning, leadoff hitter Doug Lonski hit a sharp grounder up the middle which was snagged by a Blue Ox relief pitcher for a 1-2-3 putout double play.  Then, team hitting leader Mike Peschel grounded out to 2nd to end the threat.  In the ninth inning, the Brew Crew managed to get runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, but Josh Dietz struck out swinging.

Simply put, the Brewers slumped at the wrong time of the season.  Despite winning 3 of 4 tournaments and putting up a 22-3 record through the end of July, the Brewers went 1-2 in August and were handed walking papers.  It is without a doubt the most disappointing end to any Brewer season on record.

Mike Peschel threw another great game, but unfortunately it was wasted.  The 2008 campaign will be a reminder to never look past any opponent.

The Brewers wish Ada & Bemidji good luck and all the best at the state tournament.

The team has entered NABA World Series tournament in September in Pheonix and will play very tough competition in the 18+ Open wood bat division.  The team is guaranteed 5 games and will play on major league spring training facilities.  The trip should be a lot of fun.

Also, the team is putting on a 4-man scramble golf tournament the 3rd Saturday of September (20th) at Maple River Golf Course in Mapleton, ND.  The tournament is open to the public and will also feature a poker tournament in the club house.
