| GAME SUMMARY |
| The Brewers and the Snurdbirds from Midway met at John Randall Field with the championship of the Border Battle on the line. The Birds would draw first blood in the home half of the 1st inning courtesy of a 2-run bomb by Steve Wetterling. The lead was cut in half after Tim Jallen drove in Tom Fuchs to get the Brewers on the board. Wetterling struck again with another 2-run homer to make the score 4-1 after 3 innings in favor of Midway. The Brewers exploded in the top of the 4th as they sent 9 men to the plate scoring 6 in the inning. Three consecutive singles by Ryan Olson, Chris Clemenson, and Todd Fuller made it 4-2 with Fuller driving in Olson. With 1 away and runners on 1st and 3rd Clemenson scored as Midway tried to get Oye stealing at 2nd. Clemenson slid around the tag at home to make it 4-3. Oye took third as well on the play and came home on an errant throw by the Midway catcher to tie the game. After a pop up to the infield Jeremy Peschel crushed a solo homer to put the Brewers ahead 5-4. Pat Lisko walked bringing Jallen to the plate and he cleared the bases with a homerun to left giving the Brewers a 7-4 lead. The top of the 5th saw the Brewers score another 4 runs to make it 11-4. Oye's double scored Clemenson and Fuller. The next batter was Fuchs and he belted a 2-run homer to push the lead to 7. The Snurdbirds responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to get within 11-7 after 5 complete. A run scoring single by Fuchs and and a double off the bat of Jeremy Peschel stretched the lead to 13-7 and that score would be final giving the Brewers their 3rd Border Battle title in a row. The 15-hit attack by the Brewers was lead by Fuchs and Jallen with 3 hits and 3 RBI apiece. Gabe Shockman started on the hill for the Brewers and went the distance striking out 5 on the day and earned his 2nd win on the year. Steve Wetterling of Midway was named the MVP of the tourney going 7-10 with 3 HRs and 10 RBI. Next up for the Brewers is another tussle with the Jamestown Elks at Matson Field on Tuesday at 7pm as they look to push their win streak to double digits. |
