| GAME SUMMARY |
| The opening round of the 2010 MN Class C tournament had the Moorhead Brewers facing the Region 14C Champs, the Bertha Blazers. It was a hot and muggy afternoon in Spicer and the Brewers fired out of the gates with 3 runs in the top of the 1st. Matt Oye singled to lead off and was followed by a Mike Peschel double down the 3rd baseline putting runners on the corners and nobody out. Jeremy Peschel singled in Oye to get the Brewers on the board. Chris Clemenson then doubled deep to the gap scoring Mike Peschel and the Brewers had the Blazers on the run. Dale Dingmann's SAC liner brought in JP to close out the scoring in the 1st.
Ryan Olson's 2 RBI double to left center found the wall and scored JP and Dingmann and the Brewers led 5-0 heading the bottom of the 3rd. Bertha responded with 4 runs in the home half of the 3rd courtesy of a grand slam by draftee Mike Blom to cut the Brewer lead to 5-4.
The Brewers pushed the margin back to 7-4 in the 4th as Mike Peschel drove in Tom Fuchs and a Blazer error allowed Tim Jallen to cross. Todd Fuller led off the top of the 5th with a walk and stole second. Mike Peschel plated Fuller with a 2 out single to make it 8-4. Jeremy Peschel then blasted a 2-run bomb to left putting the Brewers comfortably ahead 10-4. The Blazers were not done as as they responded with 4 consecutive hits to bring in 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Vic Sokolofsky relieved starter Kyle Kingsley with runners at 2nd and 3rd and nobody out. A walk loaded the bases and the Blazers attempted to execute a squeeze play but were thwarted as Clemenson tagged a streaking Mike Riewer trying to swipe home after the batter couldn't bunt the ball in play. Fueled by the big play Sokolofsky retired the next 2 batters without further damage and the score was 10-6 in favor of the Brewers. Vic shut down Bertha the rest of the way allowing 1 hit over the next 2 innings. The Brewer bats continued to produce offensively as Ryan Olson smacked a 2 run homer to right to extend the lead to 13-6. The top of the 8th brought more fireworks as Jeremy Peschel's 3 run blast was followed by a Clemenson bomb to put the score at 17-6. A scoreless bottom of the 8th ended the game by 10-run rule and moved the Brewers to the 2nd round. Jeremy Peschel led the offensive onslaught of Blazer pitching as he went 3-4 with 2 homers and 7 RBI. Mike Peschel chipped in 5 hits and 4 runs scored. Olson and Clemenson each homered as well with Olson driving in 4 on the afternoon
With the victory the Brewers move on to face the Hampton Cardinals, winners over Young America, on Friday night in Bird Island at 8:30pm.
