GAME SUMMARY
The Moorhead Brewers and Hampton Cardinals faced off in 2nd round of the MN Class C tournament in Bird Island on Friday night. It was win or go home for both teams as the loser will be eliminated and the winner moving on to the 8-team double elimination portion of the tourney. The Brewers sent out Spartan draftee Vic Sokolofsy oppsite Cannon Falls draftee Keith Meyers for Hampton. The Brewers jumped ahead in the top of the 2nd as Chris Clemenson tripled to lead off and scored on Dale Dingmann's RBI groundout to make it 1-0. Another Brewer run came across in the top of the 3rd as they loaded the bases and Dinmann's RBI hit by pitch brought in Tom Fuchs to move the lead to 2-0 after 3 complete. Sokolofsky continued to put up zeros on the scoreboard holding Hampton hitless through 4 innings. The contest would remain 2-0 until the 9th when Todd Fuller doubled over the left fielder's head with 1 away. Fuchs battled and singled to left to plate Fuller giving the Brewers a little more breathing room making it 3-0. Mike Peschel came in to close the 9th striking out the final 2 Cardinals. Sokolofsky was dynamite on the evening only allowing a single hit and striking out 6 Hampton batters. The win moves the Brewers on to a matchup on Sunday with the Big Lake White Caps at 1:30pm in Willmar. It also marks the first trip past the 2nd round since 2004.
