GAME SUMMARY
The Moorhead Brewers kicked off the 2011 season opposite the Jamestown Merchants on Wednesday evening at Matson Field. The Merchants grabbed the early lead with a run in the top of the 1st inning but the Brewers responded by scoring 3 in the home half of the opening inning. A bases loaded walk to Dale Dingmann brought in the first Brewer tally which was followed by Tom Fuch's SAC fly scoring Jeremy Peschel. The scoring closed in the 1st with Brewer rookie John Cahill lacing a solid knock to right plating Chris Clemenson. Merchant pitching struggled finding the strike zone the entire night as the Brewers drew 11 walks in the game. Leading 6-1 the Brewers put the contest away in the bottom of the 5th scoring 5 runs to make it 11-1. The Merchants closed the gap to 11-4 but the Brewers ended the game by 10-run rule in the 8th as Clemenson's 2-run double to the gap scored Matt Oye and Mike Peschel. Four Brewer pitchers combined to limit the Merchants to 5 hits on the evening with Oye getting credit for the victory on the mound. Oye tossed 3 scoreless innings allowing 1 H and striking out 6. The Brewers offense was led by Clemenson's 2 hits and 4 RBI along with Cahill's 3-3 and 3 RBI. Mike Peschel, Dingmann, and Jason Drake each contributed 2 hits for the home team and Fuchs drove in a pair. Next action for the Brewers is a Sunday expedition to Bemidji to take on the MudCats game time 12:30pm in a pair of 7 inning contests.
