GAME SUMMARY
Pitching was the theme on Wednesday night at Matson Field as the Brewers defeated the Fargo Expos 2-1 in a contest that saw the teams combine for 23 strikeouts and only 8 hits and 3 runs. The Expos drew even at 1-1 in the 4th on a solo homer after the Brewers had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. The score remained that way until Brewer rookie Nic Obey stepped to the plate with the bases empty and 2 away in the top of the 7th. Obey promptly delivered the decisive blow in the form of a screaming liner that found the other side of the left field wall to put the Brewers ahead 2-1. Brewer relievers made that advantage stand up and the Brewers notched their 11th victory on the season. Seven different Brewer pitchers saw action on the mound on the evening and limited Expo hitters to 3 hits while striking out 14. Obey also added a triple to go along with his game winning homer collecting 2 of the 5 Brewer hits. Mike Peschel added 2 hits on the night as well as earning the save on the mound. The Brewers now hit the road this weekend to take part in the Coors Light Classic hosted by the Jordan Brewers and Shakopee Indians. The 8-team pool play tournament features some of the top teams in Minnesota amateur baseball facing off at a pair of beautiful ballparks. The Brewers open with the Cold Spring Springers at the Mini Met in Jordan on Friday at 8pm. They then face the co-host Indian squad on Saturday morning in Shakopee and finish off pool play at 3pm opposite the St. Michael Saints in Jordan. The other pool consists of the other co-host Jordan Brewers along with the Sauk Rapids Cyclones, Blue Earth Pirates, and Class A powerhouse St. Louis Park.
